2011 Trail Trial to benefit St. Judes Childrens Research Hospital

Well, a big thank you to mother nature (NOT!).  I am rescheduling my trail trial until September 17, 2011.  Hopefully it will be a bit drier by then. 

This past week we have dealt with the harshest blow by mother nature than we have seen since moving back to Maine.  This time the creek flooded so bad that it knocked down the majority of my fence and wiped out the dog fence at the trailer and even moved the bridge by the bottom of the bank.  The water has been that deep before but never with any kind of force.. To move a bridge made out of trees and 2x6's to a totally different angle so far from the main stream is just amazing. 

THANKFULLY.. To harm to life came to any of those in the area.  I know flooded basements and knocked down fences are a pain but it could have been way worse.

So,  lets do an anti-rain dance for a little while.. I would like to see what the top of the hill looks like someday.....

Patience and Time

As most of you know I purchased a new pony for my daughter Aubrey.  Her name is Pepper and while she is very quiet under saddle she is very nervous when you work around her.  Her back legs are the worst!!  Well, I put off having the farrier here (even though she needed it bad since I got her) until after I had a chance to play with her a bit with her issues.  It paid off tenfold!!! She was just about perfect to have her feet done. I was very proud of her and actually got the "seal of approval" from my farrier - he's a tough character when he doesn't like a horse you have :-)

It goes to show.... Patience and Time is what it really takes with some horses.. Can't say all but in my opinion... Most.

2011 Annual Trail Trial

Hello all.  So, I know it isn't even January yet but I am starting to think about the upcoming trail trial.  If any of you that were here have any likes / dislikes of the last one please let me know.  I am always up for some ideas for obstacles as well.  It will be mid-May again this year and we can start doing the NO RAIN dance early!!!!! Also, spread the word to your friends / family if they would like to donate / ride / judge / or just be here to hang out (I can always put them to work - hehehe).  The more people we get the more money we make for St. Judes Childrens Hospital.  We made over $1000 last year so I would really like to hit $1500 this year.

New Year is on it's way!

So, another year has come and gone.  Many of us reflect on what we have done and think about what we will do in the upcoming year.  Myself? I have realized that I haven't spent no where near the amount of time I would have liked with my horse.  Due to the birth of my daughter 3 years ago time for my Gem has been very limited but I treasure every moment I can.  Therefore.... I am looking forward to the New Year and more time to "play" with my horse.  My greatest goal??? I would love to ride bareback and bridleless at all three gates.... My current goal?? Getting her to stay with me in the arena or paddock and not want to run back to her friends.  I know many people like to poopoo the natural approach to horses.. I used to be one of those people.... I used to do what it took to get the look at the shows.  What did I find out??? My horse hated me.  He would dump me every chance he got.  Not only that but boy did I spend a lot of money!!! So, now that I am older (and hopefully a little wiser) and have found you can get the look as well as have your horse still like you.... Isn't that something???
